ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS AND SECURING OUR FUTURE

Few events in our past have impacted America with greater intensity than the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. But the story of the bombing does not stop with the attack itself or with the many losses that resulted. The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum tells stories of resolve and resilience and of heroes and healing.

It is vital that Memorial and Museum maintain the world-class standard in which it was built. It is our responsibility and privilege to fulfill the promise to remember those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever. Together we can continue to educate and inspire this generation and future generations. This is why we seek your continued support.

Through intentional planning, you can benefit your family and help secure your legacy and your values, including your support of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. There are many simple, yet effective ways to support our mission, while also achieving your estate planning goals. Let us help you determine what is right for you. There are several options available to include us in your estate planning.

Among those options are:

  • Wills and Trusts
  • Beneficiary Designations
  • Real Estate
  • Memorials and Tribute Gifts
  • Endowed Gifts
  • Donor Advised Funds
WILLS AND TRUSTS

Making a will is an important way to extend your love, care and thankfulness to family and those you care about. It is also a wonderful way for you to support the work of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.

One simple and most flexible ways you can support our mission is through a future gift made through your will or trust in the form of a bequest. Bequests are provisions in your will or revocable trust that designate how your assets are to be distributed after your lifetime. A charitable bequest can even reduce or eliminate federal estate taxes. You have the option to give a specific dollar amount, a specified asset, a percentage of your estate or the rest and residue of your estate. If you would like to include a bequest in your will or trust to benefit the Memorial and Museum, here is some recommended language:

“I give, devise and bequeath to the Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation, located at 620 N. Harvey, Oklahoma City, OK 73102, the sum of $_________or ________% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, for its general use and purpose”

“I give, devise and bequeath to the Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation, located at 620 N. Harvey, Oklahoma City, OK 73102, all of the right, title and interest in and to the real estate located at (provide address and legal description of property), for it general use and purpose”

“I give, devise and bequeath to the Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation, located at 620 N. Harvey, Oklahoma City, OK 73102, (describe specific asset), for it general use and purpose.”

BENEFICIARY DESIGNATIONS

Designating the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum as the beneficiary of your retirement plans, IRAs, life insurance, commercial annuities, bank accounts, certificates of deposits, brokerage or other financial accounts is another effective way to help continue our mission. With a beneficiary designation, you can continue to benefit from these accounts during your lifetime. Among the options available to make this type of gift are the Payable on Death option and the Transfer on Death option.

With the Payable on Death (POD) option, you can designate all or a percentage of the account to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum on your bank account or Certificate of Deposit, as beneficiary of all remaining funds after your passing. The Memorial and Museum, as beneficiary, has no rights to the funds until after your lifetime. With the POD, estate planning and administration are made easy. Simply ask you bank representative for their form to place a POD designation on your account.

With the Transfer on Death (TOD) option, you can designate all or a percentage of your brokerage or investment account to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. The TOD designation, like the POD designation, makes estate planning simple and easy. To make the TOD designation, ask your investment adviser for their form to place a TOD designation on your account.

You can designate the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum as beneficiary of all or a percentage of your IRA, life insurance or commercial annuity account. Simply ask your representative at any of those particular companies for their beneficiary designation form. Beneficiary designations are revocable and can be modified at any time.

REAL ESTATE

Donating all or a portion of appreciated real estate, such as a home, vacation property, undeveloped land, farmland, ranch or commercial property makes a great gift to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. Your property may be given to us by executing or signing a deed transferring ownership. Your gift will generally be based on the property’s fair market value, which must be established by an independent appraisal. With a gift of real estate, you are free from paying the capital gains taxes that would have been assessed had you sold the property. When deeding your real property to us, you can receive a charitable income tax deduction based on the value of the gift.

MEMORIALS AND TRIBUTES

If you have a loved one who has been impacted by the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum and its work, establishing a memorial or tribute gift is a meaningful way to honor that loved one while supporting our mission. Your gift will be a lasting homage and will have a meaningful impact on the lives we touch. You can create a memorial or tribute gift using cash, appreciated securities, real estate or tangible personal property.

ENDOWED GIFTS

Throughout our lifetime, most of us strive to make a difference in the lives of others, providing gifts to the people and causes we value. Wouldn’t it be nice to know that you could create a legacy of support for the causes that are most important to you? By creating or adding to our existing endowment, you can give a gift that lasts forever and continue to change lives even after you’re gone.
You can give cash, securities or other assets to our existing endowment or create one of your own. These endowed gifts can be made today or in your will or trust. You have the option to decide if your endowment will be designated to fund one of our programs or given without restrictions to fund our most critical needs.

DONOR ADVISED FUNDS

A convenient and easy way to organize your charitable intentions is to create a donor advised fund (DAF). A donor advised fund (DAF) is a type of giving program administered by a third party that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to easily support your favorite charities, like the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. It is created for the purpose of managing charitable donations on behalf of an organization, family or individual.

DAFs are an excellent way to both simplify your charitable giving and facilitate your strategic philanthropic goals. DAFs allow donors to give cash, stock and other assets where the donor receives an immediate tax deduction when the contribution is made, but can directly give specified amounts to the charities of their choice at a later time.

When choosing where to set up your fund, be certain to evaluate the sponsoring organization very carefully, understand the fund’s policies and procedures, and consider the costs and investment.

Thank You!

We would love to work with you to help create a lasting legacy that honors your values and helps you achieve your charitable giving goals.
