The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum has again achieved accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest national recognition afforded the nation’s museums. Accreditation brings national attention to a museum for its commitment to excellence, accountability, high professional standards and continued institutional improvement. The Memorial was initially accredited in 2006. All museums must undergo a reaccreditation review at least every 10 years to maintain accredited status.
“We are pleased to have such high marks on our AAM Reaccreditation. As guardians of this special place, we continue to raise the bar and create a model for other places of history to learn from as we move forward. We are committed to upholding the highest professional standards for education, operations, public service and collections care. By achieving this, our staff and board are exemplifying the best museums have to offer and reminding the public how much museums really matter to our communities,” said Kari Watkins, Executive Director of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.
The institution has positioned itself as an important national memorial, a valued educational resource and a critical part of the cultural landscape of Oklahoma City, and many of its practices could serve as a model for its peer institutions around the country. –AAM Review Committee
