The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum honored PeacePlayers International with the Reflections of Hope Award and Katie Prior with the inaugural Oklahoma Standard Award today, November 14th.
PeacePlayers International was founded on the belief that children who play together can learn to live together. This international organization uses basketball to unite, educate and inspire young people to create a more peaceful world. More than 75,000 young people in 16 countries have been impacted by this program, developing friendships and mutual respect that bridge ethnic, racial and cultural divides. Part of the awards program included a special panel conversation with international athletes and coaches, led by Reflections of Hope Co-Chair, Sam Presti.
Katie Prior exemplifies the Oklahoma Standard with her Acts of Service, Honor and Kindness. After learning there were not enough people to play live Taps at veterans funerals she now donates her time and talent as a lasting tribute to those who sacrificed for our country. Sixteen year old Katie also started her own nonprofit, Youth Trumpet and Taps Corps, training additional volunteers in numerous states. Katie played God Bless America for the luncheon attendees.
